The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has effectively banned pod systems as of February 6, 2020. While this may not be good news to vape shops or retail establishments that primarily sell pod systems, it could be a more tempered form of harsher regulations such as banning flavors entirely. According to the FDA, “Under this policy, companies that do not cease the manufacture, distribution, and sale of unauthorized flavored cartridge-based e-cigarettes (other than tobacco or menthol) within 30 days risk FDA enforcement actions.” Therefore, what can you do to stay compliant? Here are some suggestions from the eJuices.co team.
“Everything Must Go” Pod Sales
One of the most tried and tested ways to sell off any of your remaining pod system inventory is to hold an “everything must go” sale. This is also true in many other (if not all) industries as well. An “everything must go” pod sale could be a fast infusion of revenue considering the limited time frame pod systems have left. At your discretion, you could heavily discount these pod systems.
It is much better to sell whatever you have at a reduced price than have inventory remaining and risk FDA enforcement actions. Do what you can to promote your sale—post on your social media page, website, and use every avenue possible, even if you have to use flyers or other forms of physical media. Also, let your customers know to tell their friends who are interested in vape products—word of mouth is still a very powerful marketing tool.
International Sales
If you’re a manufacturer of pod systems, you can reach out to international customers who may run vape shops about buying your inventory. Keep in mind that international shipping may cost a bit more, so be prepared to spend a little extra to sell to international customers. Be aware of each country’s laws regarding vape products; some countries may have more restrictive bans on vaping than the United States.
Be A Responsible Corporate Citizen
Much of the controversy around vaping revolves around minors’ access to vape products. Remember to prominently display signs that you do not sell vape products to anyone below the age of 21 in your shop. In addition, you can join campaigns such as #No2Minors to show solidarity with other vape shops and manufacturers in keeping vape products out of the hands of minors.
Remember that you can always take action to advocate for the vape industry and that you should also encourage your customers to do the same. If you have any questions or concerns, you can also contact your eJuices.co account manager or sales representative.
